These pieces of advice are useful only in advance, so if you find yourself locked out of your house now, feel free to skip this part.
1. Give a close friend or family member a spare key to your home.
Be sure to choose wisely when you decide whom to give the key to—the person entrusted with your spare house key should live fairly close to you, so that you can go to their house at a moment’s notice if necessary, but more importantly, he or she should be trustworthy.
2. You could hide your spare key someplace findable to you (but not to potential burglars).
This could however be potentially dangerous, as “professional” burglars know what to look for and where to look for it.
